Process & Mechanical Design Engineer – BIM / Revit (Engineer / Senior / Staff)
Summary
The Process & Mechanical Design Engineer owns the facility and process layout model for Deterrence Factories. You will build and maintain the Revit/BIM model that ties our equipment designs to the building: equipment placement, material flow, process and facility utilities, structural and MEP interfaces, and the installation sequence. You are the person who makes sure the line we design in CAD actually fits, connects, and can be installed in the real plant.
This is an execution role on a live program, not a design studio. The ideal candidate has designed and coordinated industrial or manufacturing facilities in Revit, has walked enough plants to know where models lie, and can work directly with equipment engineers, controls engineers, contractors, and the host facility to turn a layout into an installed, running line on a hard schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the Revit/BIM model for the production line: equipment layout, process flow, utilities, and installation phasing from concept through as-built.
- Translate equipment designs from the mechanical team (SolidWorks/Inventor) into facility-level models and coordinate interfaces: anchoring, pits and trenches, platforms, utility drops, and clearances.
- Design and route process and facility utilities to equipment: compressed air, process water, hydraulics, electrical feeds, dust collection and exhaust, and data/network pathways, coordinating with controls and electrical.
- Run clash detection and model coordination (Navisworks or equivalent) across equipment, structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines; drive resolution before fabrication and installation.
- Produce installation drawing packages: general arrangements, equipment foundation and anchor plans, utility matrices, section and elevation views, and construction-ready details.
- Capture existing conditions with laser scans and point clouds and reconcile the model to field reality; maintain as-built accuracy as the line is installed and modified.
- Develop and maintain process flow diagrams, equipment lists, and utility load schedules that feed facility design and capital planning.
- Coordinate directly with the host facility, general contractors, A/E firms, and equipment vendors on model standards, deliverable formats, and schedule.
- Set BIM standards for the site: templates, families, naming, LOD by phase, and model handoff to operations and maintenance.
- Support installation and commissioning on the floor, resolving fit and interface issues in real time with field crews.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Architectural, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent industrial design and construction experience.
- Expert-level Revit for industrial or manufacturing facilities; proficiency with Navisworks or similar coordination tools and point-cloud workflows (ReCap or equivalent).
- Working proficiency in a mechanical CAD package (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) sufficient to consume and position equipment models.
- Hands-on experience laying out production equipment and routing utilities in an operating plant, including foundations, anchoring, and MEP interfaces.
- Experience producing construction-ready drawing packages and coordinating with contractors and trades through installation.
- Comfortable on a factory floor with scanners, tape measures, and field crews; willing to travel to equipment vendors and partner sites as needed.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined in 22 CFR 120.62 (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) due to export-controlled technical data.
Preferred Skills
- Factory design, capital projects, or facility engineering at an automotive, battery, aerospace, or heavy-industrial manufacturer, or at an A/E or EPC firm serving those industries.
- Experience with greenfield or brownfield line installations inside a host facility with existing production.
- Process design background: P&IDs, equipment sizing, utility load calculations, hazardous-area layout considerations.
- Revit family creation, Dynamo or scripting for model automation, and BIM 360/ACC collaboration.
- Exposure to defense, DoD, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
Level Expectations
Engineer: executes layout, utility routing, and drawing packages under direction; owns model accuracy for assigned areas.
Senior: owns the full site model and coordination process for a line; leads clash resolution and contractor coordination; mentors junior modelers.
Staff: sets BIM and facility-design standards across sites; owns installation phasing and the interface between equipment design and facility construction; represents Deterrence to A/E firms and the host facility on design matters.
Export Control
This position requires access to information and technology subject to U.S. export control laws (ITAR/EAR). Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined in 22 CFR 120.62.
